The first printing with a first state jacket of the American edition of Burroughs's most famed (and infamous) work. The true first edition was an Olympia Press edition issued in Paris.

New York: Grove Press, [1959]. Dust jacket is first issue (without publisher's ZIP code on rear panel, and with $6.00 price on front flap). Publisher's black cloth and boards, spine lettered in gilt, top edge stained black, dust jacket. Volume light shelfwear, seems to be a bit bent from water damage, which is affecting the top black stain and bleeding black/blue to top edges of outer leaves, text generally clean. Volume still Good+ / Jacket light wear, spine gently faded, some tears at folds but stabilized with mylar (Demco brand) jacket cover and backing. Jacket Good+. Item #199
